INDEPENDENCE, Ohio -- Cleveland point guard Baron Davis has left the Cavaliers to seek a second opinion on his stiff back, an injury that has sidelined him in the early practice sessions. cheap jerseys from china . The decision only adds to the mystery on how much longer Davis, who could be waived as part of the NBAs new "amnesty clause," will be with the Cavaliers. Also Monday, the Cavaliers re-signed veteran guard Anthony Parker and announced forward Omri Casspi sustained a knee injury at practice on Sunday. He is expected to be sidelined for a couple of days. Cleveland officially introduced rookie guard Kyrie Irving, 19, the No. 1 pick in the draft, as well, on a busy day at camp. Irving, who played in only 11 games as a freshman at Duke last season because of a foot injury, has been hoping Davis could serve as his mentor. That might not happen. Davis reported to camp Friday, but felt tightness in his back during a light running session. He hasnt participated in any drills since and is getting additional opinions with the blessing of Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant. "We want him to see as many specialists as possible," Grant said. "Were very supportive of it because there are a lot of good doctors out there. Were supportive of him getting healthy." Grant didnt say where Davis is seeking his other medical opinions or when he would return to the team. The deadline for teams to exercise the "amnesty clause" is Friday. Grant said a players physical situation would not affect that decision. "Those kinds of decisions arent necessarily based on health," he said. "I dont think Barons going to be out long term, but he has some stuff were going to deal with moving forward." The 32-year-old Davis battled back and knee injuries after being acquired from the Los Angeles Clippers last season. "We all got something as we get older," said Cleveland coach Byron Scott. "He was doing great this summer from all the reports that I heard. His back got a little sore and then he came here and it kind of flared up again. Im not discounting him at all, but right now weve got to go with what weve got." Asked what he thought of Irving after watching him practise for three days, Scott smiled and said, "Hes pretty good. The one thing about Kyrie is each day he shows you a little something special. The first day it might have been one thing. Then we had a scrimmage and there were five or six things. Hes progressing very nicely." The Cavaliers, who were 19-63 last season, open the pre-season Friday against Detroit. The teams play again on Dec. 20. Cleveland opens the regular season against Toronto on Dec. 26. Davis absence, whether its temporary or permanent, will speed up Irvings progress. "If Baron isnt here or not playing in the pre-season games or when the regular season starts, it obviously gives him (Irving) more responsibility," Scott said. "But Im still not quite sure Im just going to hand him the ball." Irving is pleased with the way his first professional camp is going. "Im trying to learn as much as possible and get used to the pace of the game," he said. "Its a little different knowing they expect a lot more at this level." Irving realizes he must adjust quickly since the season begins in less than two weeks. "Its a quick turnaround," he said. "Thats something I have to get used to. In college, you get a grace period. Right now, you have a week of training camp, you play your pre-season games and you play the first game in practically a week and a half." Parker, 36, averaged 8.3 points in 72 games last season and is a candidate to be Clevelands starting shooting guard. "From the beginning, Cleveland was the team that showed the most interest," he said. "Thats a good indicator of where you fit in with an organization and how they plan to use you." Casspi, acquired from Sacramento for forward J.J. Hickson, bruised his right knee in a collision with teammate Luke Harangody at practice Sunday. Grant doesnt believe the injury is serious. NOTES: Grant said the Cavaliers have received an extension on the trade exception they received when LeBron James went to Miami. No. 8 Syracuse avoided one against Minnesota on Monday with a gritty early-season finish.DETROIT -- Mark Sanchezs screen pass was intercepted and returned for a touchdown -- by a rookie who didnt start playing football until the year after Sanchez was drafted. It was an immediate flashback to the problems Sanchez has had over the last couple years, but at least this time, he bounced back. "I know Im getting better at that," Sanchez said. "I think it comes with maturity and experience. You cant beat yourself up for a mistake." Sanchez threw a touchdown pass before leaving New Yorks exhibition opener, and the Jets went on to lose to the Detroit Lions 26-17 on Friday night. Geno Smith, the rookie who is Sanchezs main competition this preseason, left in the third quarter with a right ankle injury. Lions rookie Ziggy Ansah made an immediate impression when he intercepted Sanchezs pass and ran it back 14 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. "Its not going to stop there. I think he has a lot of great natural talent," Detroit defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh said. "He has great instincts for finding the ball and making plays." Sanchez went 10 of 13 for 125 yards. Smith was 6 of 7 for 47 yards but did not lead any scoring drives. Detroits Matthew Stafford played two series, going 3 of 8 for 58 yards and leading the Lions to a field goal. All three of his completions went to Calvin Johnson. Ansah grew up in Ghana, playing soccer and basketball. He put on football pads for the first time three years ago, and now the Lions hope hell become a big part of their defence. Detroit took the 6-foot-5 defensive end with the No. 5 pick in this years draft. Ansah was able to get his hands up quickly when he intercepted Sanchezs pass, and his return to the end zone made it 7-0. "Weve got a lot of work to do," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "We had 11 penalties, and you cant win if you keep playing first-and-20. We had two turnovers and we didnt get a takeaway. We have to stop the self-inflicted problems pretty quickly." Sanchez looked sharp at times, completing an 18-yard pass over the middle to Clyde Gates on third-and-10, shortly after the interception. The Jets trailed 10-0 when Sanchez led them on an 80-yard scoriing drive that ended when he found Jeff Cumberland for a 26-yard touchdown play. Cheap MLB Jerseys Cyber Monday. Sanchez is coming off two mistake-prone seasons in which he led the NFL with 52 turnovers in that span. His early interception against Detroit did not inspire confidence, but its still not clear what the Jets have in Smith. "I thought all three quarterbacks looked good when the protection held up," Ryan said. Smith was able to walk back to the tunnel under his own power, and Ryan said hed be looked at Saturday. There was only one major injury in the game -- Jets running back John Griffin fractured a leg. The Lions didnt answer all of their questions. The Stafford-to-Johnson connection looked as good as ever, but Detroit needs other receiving threats. Nate Burleson didnt catch a pass, and Ryan Broyles -- who is recovering from a right knee injury -- didnt play. Reggie Bush, who signed with the Lions in the off-season, contributed one highlight on his first carry. Bush slipped to the outside and jumped over cornerback Kyle Wilson, who missed completely on a diving tackle attempt. That play drew some ooohs and ahhhs from the crowd. "He was already low, he was already short, so he just made it kind of easy on me," Bush said. "It was an easy decision." Detroit must finally replace longtime kicker Jason Hanson, who retired. David Akers made a 47-yard field goal in the first quarter, and Norwegian sensation Havard Rugland added kicks of 49 and 50 yards in the second half. Rugland became a hit because of a YouTube video he posted last year that showed him kicking a football to a friend on a boat in a lake, among other tricks. Shaun Hill, Detroits backup quarterback, went 11 of 18 for 136 yards and a touchdown. NOTES: The Jets were without WR Santonio Holmes, who has been out with a foot injury. RB Joe McKnight was also out -- hes been going through the leagues official concussion protocol. ... Lions S Louis Delmas (left knee) did not play either. ... Detroit WR Matt Willis had three catches for 51 yards, including a fine grab in the back corner of the end zone for a 15-yard touchdown in the second quarter. ' ' '
